Learning Outcome 9
"Students will demonstrate professional and collaborative
interpersonal skills."
Professional and collaborative interpersonal skills are an integral part of teaching because within an educational institution, teachers work together in a team. Sharing ideas and resources can help improve the overall education in a school. This learning outcome is particularly relevant to my Peace Corps experience because every day I worked side-by-side with ten English teachers. As a TEFL Peace Corps volunteer, the main responsibility is to improve the methodology and teaching strategies used in the classroom by the English teachers at the school. Therefore, I planned and taught classes together with the English teachers at my school. Besides teaching with my co-workers, I also offered training sessions to raise the level of education at both my secondary high school and throughout the country. The theoretical knowledge that I learned while on campus at Gonzaga University prepared me to feel confident presenting on topics such as the communicative approach, chunking and scaffolding, listening strategies, differentiated learning and rubrics.
